مَتَى جَعَلَكَ فِى الظَّاهِرِ مُمْتَثِلًا لِأَمْرِهِ وَرَزَقَكَ فِى الْبَاطِنِ الِاسْتِسْلَامَ لِقَهْرِهِ فَقَدْ أَعْظَمَ الْمِنَّةَ عَلَيْكَ

Whenever He makes you, in your outward being, one who carries out His command, and grants you, in your inward being, surrender to His overpowering, then He has made His gracious gift to you great indeed.

هذان الأمران هما اللذان يلزمانك فى اقامة العبودية لربك لا غير فمتى يسرهما الله تعالى لك وأقامك فى مراعاة أحكامهما ووفقك لذلك فقد أعظم المنة عليك فلماذا تتشوف وما الذى تلتمس بعدهما ان كنت عبدا حقيقيا

These two matters are what is required of you, and nothing else, in establishing servanthood (*ʿubūdiyya*) to your Lord. So when God (exalted is He) has made them easy for you, established you in observing their rulings, and granted you success (*tawfīq*) in that, He has made His favor upon you great. Why, then, do you crane your gaze in longing (*tashawwuf*), and what is it you seek after these two, if you are a true servant
