اِرَادَتُكَ التَّجْرِيدَ مَعَ اِقَامَةِ اللَّهِ اِيَّاكَ فِى الْاَسْبَابِ مِنَ الشَّهْوَةِ الْخَفِيَّةِ وَاِرَادَتُكَ الْاَسْبَابَ مَعَ اِقَامَةِ اللَّهِ اِيَّاكَ فِى التَّجْرِيدِ اِنْحِطَاطٌ عَنِ الْهِمَّةِ الْعَلِيَّةِ

Your wanting divestment while God has set you in the means is part of the hidden desire; and your wanting the means while God has set you in divestment is a descent from lofty aspiration.

الاسباب ههنا عبارة عما يتوصل به الى غرض ما ينال فى الدنيا والتجريد عبارة عن عدم تشاغله بتلك الاسباب لاجل ذلك فمن أقامه الحق تعالى فى الاسباب وأراد هو الخروج منها فذلك من شهوته الخفية

“The means” here denotes that by which one arrives at some aim to be obtained in this world, and “divestment” denotes one’s not busying oneself with those means for the sake of that aim. So whoever the Real (*al-Ḥaqq*), exalted is He, has established in the means, while he himself desires to leave them, that comes from his hidden appetite
