Ibn ʿAbbād

للمريد بداية ونهاية فبدايته حال سلوكه ونهايته حال وصوله فمن صحح بدايته بالرجوع الى الله تعالى والتوكل عليه والاستعانة به كما ذكرنا أفلح وأنجح فى نهايته

The aspirant (*al-murīd*) has a beginning and an end. His beginning is his state while journeying on the path (*sulūk*), and his end is his state upon arrival (*wuṣūl*). So whoever makes his beginning sound by turning back to God, exalted is He, by trusting in Him (*al-tawakkul*), and by seeking His help (*al-istiʿāna*), as we have mentioned, prospers and succeeds at his end
