مَا الْعَارِفُ مَنْ اِذَا أَشَارَ وَجَدَ الْحَقَّ أَقْرَبَ اِلَيْهِ مِنْ اِشَارَتِهِ بَلِ الْعَارِفُ مَنْ لَا اِشَارَةَ لَهُ لِفَنَائِهِ فِى وُجُودِهِ وَانْطِوَائِهِ فِى شُهُودِهِ

The knower is not one who, when he makes an allusion, finds the Real nearer to him than his allusion. Rather, the knower is one who has no allusion at all, because of his passing away in His being and his being enfolded in the witnessing of Him.

الاشارة ألطف من العبارة وهى كناية وتلويح وايماء لا تصريح وهى التى يستعملها أهل هذه الطريقة فيما بينهم عند ذكرهم لاسرار التوحيد كما تقدم عند قوله من رأيته مجيبا عن كل ما سئل

Allusion is subtler than explicit expression (*ʿibāra*). It is indirect reference (*kināya*), hinting (*talwīḥ*), and intimation (*īmāʾ*), not plain statement (*taṣrīḥ*). It is what the people of this Path (*ahl hādhihi al-ṭarīqa*) use among themselves when they speak of the secrets (*asrār*) of the affirmation of divine unity (*tawḥīd*), as was set out earlier at his saying: "Whomever you see answering everything he is asked
