Ibn ʿAbbād

مطالب العارفين من ربهم أعلى من مطالب غيرهم سواء كانوا عبادا أو زهادا أو علماء لان مطالب العارفين من ربهم انما هو الصدق فى العبودية والقيام بحقوق الربوبية فقط من غير مراعاة حظ ولا بقاء مع نفس وكل من عداهم لم يفارقوا الحظوظ والاغراض فى مطالبهم

What the gnostics seek from their Lord is loftier than what others seek, whether those others be devout worshippers (*ʿubbād*), renunciants (*zuhhād*), or scholars (*ʿulamāʾ*). For what the gnostics seek from their Lord is solely sincerity in servanthood and fulfilment of what is due to Lordship, and nothing more, without any regard for personal gain (*ḥaẓẓ*) and without remaining with the self (*nafs*). All besides them have not parted from personal gains and selfish aims (*aghrāḍ*) in what they seek
