وَلَوْ قَرَّبُوا مِنْ حَانِهَا مُقْعَداً مَشَى وَيَنْطِقُ مِنْ ذِكْرَى مَذَاقَتِهَا الْبُكْمُ

And were they to bring a cripple near its tavern, he would walk; and at the mere remembrance of its taste the mute would speak.

al-Būrīnī

الحانة موضع بيع الخمر والحان جمعها مثل حاجة وحاج وساعة وساع يعنى لو قرب القوم من موضع وجود الخمرة مقعد اقد ناله الزمان بعلة الزمانة واقعده بذلك مكانه لمشى بمجرد التقريب واستغنى عن معالجة الطبيب

Al-ḥāna is the place where wine is sold, and ḥān is its plural, like ḥāja and ḥāj, sāʿa and sāʿ. He means: if the people brought near to the place where the wine is found a cripple whom time had struck with the ailment of chronic disability, confining him thereby to his place, he would walk through the mere bringing near and would have no need of a physician's treatment.

al-Nābulusī

﴿قربوا﴾

أى الندمان والمعنى بالحان هنا مجالس أهل العاوم الالهية اصحاب التحقيق والعرفان

That is, the boon companions. What is meant by the tavern here is the gatherings of the people of the divine sciences, the people of taḥqīq (realization) and ʿirfān (gnosis).

مُقْعَداً مَشَى

al-Nābulusī

﴿مقعدا﴾

كى به هنا عن لانه وض له الى معرفة ربد المعرفة الحقيقية

By it he alludes here to […], because he […] to the knowledge of his Lord, the true maʿrifa (gnosis).

﴿مشى﴾

أى انطلق من قيود أ وهامه وشهوانه وسلك حيث اراد من مسالك التحقيق بعناية التوفيق

That is, he was released from the fetters of his fancies and his lusts, and travelled wherever he wished along the paths of taḥqīq (realization), through the providence of tawfīq (divine success).

al-Būrīnī

He means: if someone mentioned the taste of that wine in the presence of a mute, he would speak and utter his words. Al-bukm at the end of the verse is the plural of abkam, the dumb; or one who is born not speaking, not hearing and not seeing. This verse contains two karāmāt (charismatic graces) of the wine: the first, the cripple's walking when brought near its tavern; the second, the mute's speaking when its taste is mentioned. In the verse there is ṭibāq (antithesis) in being crippled and walking, and in speech and muteness.

قوله وتنطق الخ بالتاء هي نسخته التي كتب عليها اهMargin of the print (p. 180). Marginal note: the commentator's own copy read وتنطق (with tāʾ); the print's verse has the yāʾ form.

﴿وتنطق﴾

Quotes words that differ from our text (wavy underline).

أى تتكلم بالعلوم الالهية والحقائق العرفانية

That is, they speak of the divine sciences and the gnostic realities.

﴿من ذكرى﴾

بالكسر المعنى به هنا التذكر والحفظ بدوام استحضار التجليات الالهية فى عوالم الامكان بحيث تزول غيريتها عن بصيرته بالكلية

With kasra. What is meant by it here is recollection and preservation, through constantly calling to mind the divine tajalliyāt (self-disclosures) in the worlds of possibility, such that their otherness vanishes entirely from his inner sight.

al-Nābulusī

﴿مذاقتها﴾

المعنى فى ذلك تذكر معانى التجليات الالهية الجارية على السنة العارفين المحققين فان الكلام اذا خرج من القلوب دخل الى القلوب والذى فى الالسنة لا يجاوز الالسنة

What is meant by this is the recollection of the meanings of the divine tajalliyāt (self-disclosures) that run on the tongues of the realized gnostics. For speech, when it comes out of hearts, enters into hearts, and what is on the tongues does not go beyond the tongues.

﴿البكم﴾

جمع أبكم كنى بذلك عن الغافل المحجوب عن تجليات علام الغيوب فانه أبكم اللسان والقلب فلا ينطق الا عن الاغيار بالاغيار اه

Plural of abkam. By it he alludes to the heedless one, veiled from the self-disclosures of the Knower of the Unseen; for he is mute of tongue and heart, and so he speaks only of others (aghyār), by others.
