Unsigned in the print: for vv. 23–30 al-Būrīnī's commentary is wanting and the print gives al-Nābulusī's alone, without its siglum.

al-Nābulusī

It is grapes; that is, no vine existing. By the vine he alluded metonymically to the worlds of possibility, which are all created things. For they are passing away, non-existent by their original non-existence, and the existence apparent upon them is the existence of the Real Most High and nothing else.

al-Nābulusī

The wāw is circumstantial, and Ādam is a mubtadaʾ (subject). He is the father of mankind, the first created being of this human species.

al-Nābulusī

[It is] also a mubtadaʾ (subject). It is the world of possibility, as we mentioned; that is, and it is existent.

Unsigned in the print: for vv. 23–30 al-Būrīnī's commentary is wanting and the print gives al-Nābulusī's alone, without its siglum.

Verses 25 and 26 are printed together, with one commentary on both.

That is, existing then, because existence is one. When it is attributed to the divine wine, which is al-tajallī al-amrī al-wujūdī (the existential self-disclosure of the command), no existence at all remains to the vine, which is a metonym for the world of possibility. When it is attributed to the aforementioned vine, no existence at all remains to the aforementioned wine. His saying wa-lī: the wāw is circumstantial, and lī is a preposition and its object, an attribute of umm at the end of the verse.

al-Nābulusī

[It is] a preposition and its object, attached to an obligatorily elided [word], a fronted khabar (predicate). His saying ab is a postponed mubtadaʾ (subject), and the clause is the khabar of the mubtadaʾ, that is, [of the one] which is Ādam. The clause 'Ādam lī ab' is in the position of the accusative, a ḥāl (circumstantial clause) from the pronoun in the implied 'existing,' either the first or the second. Its implied form is: 'wine existing, it being in the state of Adam being a father to me,' or 'no vine existing, it being in the state of Adam being a father to me.' He means that the fatherhood of Adam (upon him be peace) to me, and my sonship to him, exist in the ḥaḍra (presence) of divine knowledge and divine speech. Nothing of that has changed or been altered from the manifest order and dazzling arrangement.

[It is] a mubtadaʾ (subject). The pronoun refers to the wine, that is, the mother of the aforementioned wine. His saying umm is the khabar (predicate) of ummuhā. The implied form of the speech is: 'and a vine existing and no wine existing, in the state of the wine's mother (meaning the aforementioned wine) being a mother described as being mine.'

Unsigned in the print: for vv. 23–30 al-Būrīnī's commentary is wanting and the print gives al-Nābulusī's alone, without its siglum.

Verses 25 and 26 are printed together, with one commentary on both.
