What is counted, and why
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit and which texts are read, so the editor knows what to work on next. When analytics cookies are allowed, Google Analytics records:
- the pages you open, including moves between pages inside the site;
- the page you came from, and basic facts about your device and browser (type, screen size, language);
- your approximate location (country or city), which Google works out from your IP address;
- a random identifier, kept in a first-party cookie whose name begins
_ga, so that repeat visits from the same browser are counted once.
Advertising storage, ad personalisation and the sharing of ad data are switched off for every visitor, in every region. Nothing is used for ads, and nothing is sold. Analytics runs only on the public site, not on previews or development copies.
Your choice, by region
The site uses Google's Consent Mode. What happens before you choose depends on where you are visiting from:
- The European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: analytics cookies are off until you choose Accept.
- Everywhere else: analytics cookies are on until you choose Decline.
Wherever you are, the cookie card asks once, and Accept and Decline carry equal weight. Your answer is kept in this browser and overrides the regional default on every later visit. Choosing Decline also deletes any Google Analytics cookies already set.
While analytics cookies are off, the Google tag still loads. Under Consent Mode it may send Google signals without cookies or a stored identifier, which Google uses only to estimate overall traffic.
Changing your mind
Use Cookie settings in the footer of any page. It reopens the card, and you can choose again. Clearing this site's data in your browser has the same effect: the card will ask again on your next visit.
What stays in your browser
The reader remembers your settings in your browser's local storage: how you read (glosses, translation, vowels, the word panel's first tab), audio preferences, your cookie choice, whether you have closed a hint, and what you keep as you read (notes, progress and saved words). These are not cookies, there is no account to attach them to, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes them.
For reading offline, the site's service worker may keep copies of pages and text files in your browser's cache.
Other services
Playing Quran audio, a word or a recitation, loads it from an outside audio host such as audio.qurancdn.com or everyayah.com, which receives your request as any web server would. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
