طَلَبُكَ مِنْهُ اتِّهَامٌ لَهُ وَطَلَبُكَ لَهُ غَيْبَةٌ مِنْكَ عَنْهُ وَطَلَبُكَ لِغَيْرِهِ لِقِلَّةِ حَيَائِكَ مِنْهُ وَطَلَبُكَ مِنْ غَيْرِهِ لِوُجُودِ بُعْدِكَ عَنْهُ

Your asking of Him is suspicion of Him; your seeking Him is your absence from Him; your seeking what is other than Him comes from your scant shame before Him; and your asking of another than Him comes from the reality of your distance from Him.

الطلب الذى يتصور من العبد على أربعة أوجه وكلها مدخولة معلولة طلبه من الله وطلبه له وطلبه لغيره وطلبه من غيره فطلبه من الله تهمة له اذ لو وثق به فى ايصال منافعه اليه من غير سؤال لما طلب منه شيأ

The seeking (*ṭalab*) that can be conceived on the part of the servant (*ʿabd*) takes four forms, and all of them are tainted and defective: his seeking from God, his seeking God, his seeking what is other than Him, and his seeking from what is other than Him. His seeking from God is a suspicion (*tuhma*) of Him, for had he trusted (*wathiqa*) Him to convey his benefits to him without being asked, he would not have sought anything from Him
