Ibn ʿAbbād

الانفاس أزمنة دقيقة تتعاقب على العبد مادام حيا فكل نفس يبدو منه ظرف لقدر من أقدار الحق تعالى ينفذه فيه كائنا ما كان

Breaths (*anfās*) are minute spans of time that follow one upon another over the servant (*ʿabd*) for as long as he lives. Every breath that issues from him is thus a vessel (*ẓarf*) for one of the decrees of the Real (*al-Ḥaqq*), exalted is He, which He enacts in him, whatever it may be
