Do not keep the company of one whose state does not rouse you, and whose speech does not guide you to God.

Ibn ʿAbbād

تكلم ههنا فى الصحبة وهى أصل كبير من أصول القوم وفيها منافع وفوائد ولذلك استمر عليها شأنهم قديما وحديثا

Here he speaks of companionship (*ṣuḥba*), which is one of the great foundations among the principles of the Folk (*al-qawm*). It holds benefits and advantages, and for this reason their practice has steadily adhered to it, in former times and recent alike.
