أقول الاعتماد على الله تعالى نعت العارفين الموحدين والاعتماد على غيره وصف الجاهلين الغافلين كائنا ما كان ذلك الغير حتى علومهم وأعمالهم وأحوالهم أما العارفون الموحدون فانهم على بساط القرب والمشاهدة ناظرون الى ربهم فانون عن أنفسهم

I say: Reliance on God (exalted is He) is the attribute of the gnostics (*ʿārifūn*) who affirm the divine oneness (*muwaḥḥidūn*), while reliance on anything other than Him is the mark of the ignorant and the heedless (*ghāfilūn*), whatever that other may be, even their own knowledge, works, and spiritual states (*aḥwāl*). As for the gnostics who affirm the divine oneness, they, upon the carpet of nearness (*bisāṭ al-qurb*) and witnessing (*mushāhada*), gaze upon their Lord, passed away (*fānūn*) from themselves
