The inrush comes from the presence of One who overpowers (qahhār). For that reason nothing confronts it without being crushed by it: "Nay, We hurl the truth against falsehood, and it crushes its head, and lo, it vanishes away" [Qurʾān 21:18].

Ibn ʿAbbād

The inrush is stamped with the mark of subjugation (*qahr*) and dominance, since it arrives from the presence of the All-Subduing, Who prevails over His affair. For that reason nothing of the follies (*ruʿūnāt*) of human nature (*bashariyya*) collides with it but that it crushes and removes it. It is, moreover, a truth that has come upon a falsehood, and falsehood has no firm standing in the face of the truth

Ibn ʿAbbād's Arabic: the opening of his commentary on each passage, transcribed from the page images of the Cairo 1319/1901 print and read twice (each comment links to the page where his commentary on that passage begins; the rest of it is on the following pages, not transcribed). English translations of the commentaries and of the passage are AI (Claude) and marked. Differences are computed by comparing the words each commentator quotes with our working text; they may reflect a different manuscript reading, a paraphrase, or an alignment error. About this text.
