Help bring in more texts

Everything here is free to read, and will stay free. Sponsoring is a way to help more works arrive in the reader. Nothing is being collected yet; this page is to see who would like to help, and with what.

What a sponsorship would cover

Bringing a text in takes careful work. A sponsorship would pay for the steps that need people.

Finding the edition
Choosing the best available edition of the Arabic or Persian and checking that it may be shown.
Vowelling and verification
Setting the text in the reader and checking it against the printed page, line by line.
Translation where there is none
An English translation for a work that has none, checked against the original and always marked as such.
Review by a scholar
A specialist reading the result before it is called finished.
Audio
A recitation or reading to listen along.

We have not yet measured what a text costs to bring in. When we have, the costs will be published here, openly, text by text. A sponsor never changes what a text says or how it is edited.

Help complete these texts

Central works that, as far as we have found, a reader of English cannot yet read in full. Each has been begun: part of the text is prepared, and some of it is already readable here with AI English that no person has yet checked. A sponsorship would help finish it: the rest of the text, a careful translation, and a scholar's review.

  • Tamhīdātتمهیدات

    ʿAyn al-Quḍāt Hamadānī, d. 525/1131

A book of Persian Sufi prose by a man executed in his early thirties, written a century before Ibn ʿArabī.

We have found no complete English translation. Begun: the first Tamhīd is prepared from a digital text, not yet proofread by a person and not yet on a reader page. It belongs beside the Persian texts already in the reader (Gulshan-i rāz, Manṭiq al-ṭayr).

  • Sharḥ Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikamشرح فصوص الحكم

    ʿAbd al-Razzāq al-Qāshānī, d. c. 730/1330

The most-used commentary on Ibn ʿArabī's Fuṣūṣ, the book the reader already holds.

We have found no English translation. Begun here: chapters 1 and 15 from a printed witness, with chapters 2–6 in a typed text; it sits beside the Fuṣūṣ, chapter by chapter.

  • Kitāb khatm al-awliyāʾكتاب ختم الأولياء

    al-Ḥakīm al-Tirmidhī, d. c. 295/910

The source of the idea of the Seal of the Saints, which Ibn ʿArabī later answers in the Fuṣūṣ.

We have found no English translation. Begun here: the preface and chapters 1–8, about a third of the book; short enough to finish.

If there is another text you would like to see here, the form below lets you say so.

Dedications (planned)

We hope to let a sponsor dedicate a text in someone's memory, for a teacher, or for the sake of God, with a line printed at the front of the text. Many readers will know the idea of ṣadaqa jāriya, a gift whose benefit goes on; a dedication would be offered in that spirit. This is not available yet.

Tell us you are interested

There is nothing to pay and nothing is taken. Leave an address and we will write to you, once, when sponsoring is ready. You confirm by email first; confirming also adds you to the list for news of new texts, which you can leave at any time.

For example “in memory of …” or “for the sake of God”. Dedications are planned, not yet offered.
