Ibn ʿAbbād

هذا بيان جزائهم المعجل وهو أنه عرفهم من عظمته وجلاله وكبريائه ما استحقروا معه أنفسهم أن يكونوا أهلا لان يكلفهم القيام بطاعته ويمدهم فيها بتيسيره ومعونته

This is an explanation of their hastened recompense (*al-jazāʾ al-muʿajjal*), namely, that He has made known to them so much of His immensity (*ʿaẓama*), His majesty (*jalāl*), and His grandeur (*kibriyāʾ*) that, in light of it, they deemed themselves too lowly to be worthy of His charging them (*taklīf*) with the performance of obedience to Him, and of His sustaining them in it with His facilitation (*taysīr*) and His aid (*maʿūna*)
