اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ١ 1. 2. The grace
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ٤ 4. The blessing
When the Prophet's companions asked how they should bless him, he is reported to have taught them these words. Al-Bukhārī (no. 3370) gives this form from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjra. Muslims say it in the sitting of the daily prayer, which makes it the one blessing on this list nearly everyone already knows.
Other reports of the hadith differ a little in wording, and it is commonly said with «سيدنا» added. Some leave that out, to keep to the reported words.
