  1. Mawqif 61 · The call to the Abode of Peace

    See the print: Damascus 1966, p. 123, Cairo, vol. 1, PDF p. 128, Cairo, vol. 1, PDF p. 129 (archive.org)

    He, exalted is He, said: "And God calls to the Abode of Peace, and guides whom He wills to a straight path" (Q 10:25).

    He, exalted is He, reports that He calls His servants, of humans and jinn, in the present and in the future, to the Abode of Peace, in the sense of safety. This is the pure, all-embracing mercy, which encompasses all servants after the end of the divine wrath.

    He calls them in the present through the tongues of the messengers (blessings and peace be upon them) to righteous deeds, words and beliefs, which are the means of attaining safety, in the sense of complete, unmixed mercy, without any admixture of wrath preceding it;

    and He calls them in the future to its actual attainment;

    Then He, exalted is He, reports that, although He calls everyone in this world, in the sense of calling them to deeds and to following the messengers in what He sent them with, He has distinguished between them by His wisdom and His will:

    He guides whom He wills to guide (these are the believers) to a straight path, that is, a road near in arrival and easy in walking to peace, so that they reach it without hardship and without wrath preceding;

    and He leads astray whom He wills (these are the unbelievers who disobey the messengers, peace be upon them), so they do not reach the complete mercy except by a road that is not straight and is far, and after the divine wrath has taken its course;

    and they are those concerning whom He, exalted is He, said: "Those are called from a far place" (Q 41:44)

    — far from the pure mercy, [called] to the pure mercy; for it does not reach them except after a while.
