About this text
  1. Mawqif 84 · A swoon in beholding

Context: the Emir reports an experience at home, with his wife, in which he heard himself addressed. Sufi tradition calls this inspiration, which is not prophetic revelation.

    See the print: Damascus 1966, p. 163, Cairo, vol. 1, PDF p. 165 (archive.org)

I was with my wife under a quilt, and I was in beholding; then I swooned, and the Real (exalted is He) spoke to me and said to me: “Truly I, I am God; there is no god but I” (Q 20:14).

    The Blessed Lord.

After returning to the senses, joy came over me, and I recognised from it a glad tiding, and what a glad tiding!!
